Birth Injuries

Aggressive Birth Injury Representation

Of all medical malpractice claims, and even all personal injury-related claims, birth injuries are perhaps the most tragic. Many people can find a way to overcome injuries and illnesses that they suffer themselves, but it can be much more difficult when it happens to a child. Likewise, if a mother suffers injuries during childbirth, it can add tragedy to what would otherwise be an extremely positive experience.

At the law offices of Joel L. Katz, L.L.C., we understand the difficulties involved with the aftermath of a birth injury. We have handled many of these and other medical malpractice claims since our firm opened in 1966. Our lawyers have more than 125 years of combined experience representing Maryland clients in Chestertown, on the Eastern Shore and in our hometown of Annapolis. Our birth injury attorneys will walk you through every step of your case to help you obtain full and fair compensation for the tragic loss you have suffered.

We handle cases involving all types of birth trauma, including:

  • Lack of oxygen to the child’s body or brain: Called hypoxia or asphyxia, lack of oxygen to the child’s body or brain is a common cause of cerebral palsy and other serious complications.
  • Shoulder injuries: Shoulder dystocia occurs when the child’s shoulders become stuck during birth, often resulting in Erb’s palsy or other serious longer-term complications involving shoulder injuries and related problems.
  • C-section errors: Delivering a child by cesarean section (C-section) can be a dangerous surgical procedure. These cases can involve doctors performing C-sections unnecessarily, not performing the surgery when it’s needed or making errors during the procedure that cause injuries to the child or mother.

These are just a few of the birth injury cases we handle. Talk with us as soon as possible if you think there may have been an error in the birthing process. We can help you determine whether you have a claim and, if so, get your case started right away.
