Workplace injuries in separate locations in Maryland kills 2
Accidents can happen at just about any time while working on the job. Keeping Maryland employees safe while at work is at the top of the list for most employers. The guidelines and policies are set in place to help meet the standards set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Even with the best placed policies and the highest of standards, workplace injuries still occur in Maryland. Two men in two separate locations were killed within hours of each other earlier last week while working.
Both incidents occurred on Tuesday, Feb, 21, 2017. The first incident happened at 7:30 a.m. when firefighters responded to a report of a tree falling on a worker. The man, who was estimated to be in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The second accident occurred around 9:10 a.m. Firefighters responded to a report of a man falling 30 feet from a tree. A man, estimated to be in his 20s, was declared deceased by paramedics at the scene.
When workplace injuries occur, the Maryland workers’ compensation program provides benefits to help aid victims and their families. Financial compensation received may help to to cover some of the revenue lost during the period of missed work. In the event of fatality, workers’ compensation program death benefits are paid to a surviving spouse and any dependent children. A knowledgeable attorney can help victims and their families understand the steps taken to receive the benefits they are entitled to, including an appeal of any denials of benefits.
