Woman awarded $1.2 million in medical malpractice suit

Sometimes, a Maryland resident may go in for a routine medical procedure, only to suffer complications and unforeseen side effects later. At other times, an individual may suffer what they feel to be unnecessary pain while in the care of a medical professional. Sometimes doctors fail to diagnose serious conditions. An out-of-state woman recently received a $1.2 million settlement in a medical malpractice suit. The woman had been complaining of abdominal pain and checked into a medical center in July 2011. It was believed that the woman was experiencing an ectopic pregnancy. While walking to an exam room in the company of a medical resident, the woman complained that she felt dizzy and needed to stop.

The resident left the woman and sought assistance, but during this time, the woman lost all consciousness and fell. As a result of the fall, the woman was seriously injured and required elbow and neck surgery. The suit alleges that the woman should never have been left alone. The jury awarded her around $1.2 million. This included $600,000 in damages as well as $100,00 for pain and suffering in the future.
