Two road construction workers struck by drunk driver
After closing one lane on a highway in the state, two road construction workers sustained injuries in an accident. The two men were placing cones along the lane when a woman allegedly drove into that lane and hit them. The woman is suspected of being a drunk driver.
The workers had almost finished closing the lane when the accident took place. Cones had already been placed over half of a mile down the road before the driver reached the men. But the woman, who was behind the wheel of a large pickup truck, veered into the closed lane of the Maryland highway.
One of the men suffered serious injuries, and the other was said to have critical injuries. They were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The woman did not sustain any injuries but was taken in for an alcohol test since that was suspected to be the reason for the accident.
Investigators at the scene say that the woman’s failure to obey the lane clearly marked closed and being under the influence of alcohol were both likely contributing factors. The investigation is being handled by the Traffic Safety Section. A state attorney will review all evidence and charges.
When someone is injured in the state of Maryland because of the negligence of a drunk driver, he or she may choose to consult with a personal injury attorney.
