Two bicyclists killed in car accident near Chesapeake Beach
Two Maryland residents from Montgomery County who were near Chesapeake Beach were killed in a recent accident, police say. The car accident occurred on a recent Saturday afternoon. The individuals were riding a tandem bicycle.
Police arrived at the accident scene around 3 p.m., which is when they discovered that two bicyclists had been ejected from their bike. One of the individuals, a 58-year-old woman from Clarksburg, died at the scene. Her companion, a 64-year-old man, also of Clarksburg, was rushed to a local hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries.
According to the preliminary investigation, the two had been riding their bike on a local road when an SUV, driven by a 62-year-old woman from Huntingtown, hit the two from behind. The police determined that, at the time of the accident, the driver of the SUV was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, and she was arrested. She was charged with nine traffic violations and is also facing criminal charges related to the fatal accident.
