SUV strikes cyclist: woman recovering from traumatic brain injury
Like in many personal injury cases, the injuries a Maryland cyclist may suffer in a bike injury often vary widely. In a minor accident, a victim may only suffer an injury like a bump,a cut or a scrape, but in a more serious accident, a fracture, spinal damage or even a traumatic brain injury may result. One out-of-state woman suffered a traumatic brain injury in a recent bike vs.vehicle accident.
The accident occurred over a month and a half ago. However, the woman only recently came out of her coma and was able to speak about the accident. The 25-year-old woman was involved in a hit-and-run accident. While out for a bike ride around 6:25 p.m. in the middle of September, the New York woman’s bike was struck directly in the rear by an SUV.
She was ejected from her bike and landed on the other side of the road in a woody area. The driver left the scene of the accident. The victim was rushed to a local medical center, where the medical staff decided to place her in a medically-induced coma in order to lessen the swelling of her brain. She is currently undergoing physical therapy, as well as working on communication skills. The driver, a 49-year-old woman who turned herself in, has been charged in connection with the accident.
When a Maryland individual suffers a traumatic brain injury, it has the potential to be a life-changing, catastrophic or even fatal injury. When a TBI occurs due to the negligence of another individual, an experienced personal injury lawyer can help to both investigate and review the facts and circumstances, as well as decide upon an appropriate course of action. In so doing, the attorney may help the victim achieve a monetary award to cover all applicable losses.
