Recent Maryland car accident injures 2

When it comes to riding, many Maryland motorcyclists know that no matter how careful one is, a rider cannot control the choices of the other drivers on the road. Standard vehicles have airbags and other devices to protect their passengers while motorcycles, unfortunately, do not. When involved in a car accident, the only protection an individual has on a motorcycle is a helmet and the clothing he or she is wearing.

Two individuals suffered critical injuries after being involved in a recent serious car-motorcycle accident. The accident occurred on a Saturday in mid-October in Severn, Anne Arundel County. It happened when a car made a left-hand turn in front of a motorcycle, police said.

The 43-year-old Severn man operating the motorcycle, as well as his 27-year-old female passenger, were ejected from the motorcycle and taken to a local shock trauma center in Baltimore for treatment of the critical injuries they had suffered, according to police. The other vehicle’s driver, an 83-year-old Glen Burnie man, was taken to another medical center with only minor injuries. Police believe that the driver’s decision to not yield right of way while initiating the left turn was the accident’s primary cause.

The investigation is currently ongoing. It remains to be seen whether the driver will be charged in connection with this serious car accident. When a car-motorcycle accident like this occurs in Maryland and the other driver is charged in relation to the accident and prosecutors are able to secure a conviction on that charge, this may be offered as proof of negligence in a personal injury suit brought by a victim or his or her family.
