Car accidents in Maryland may cause damage that can range from minor fender benders to colossal high-speed multi-car pileups. In the event a driver is injured in a car accident and decides to file a legal claim for damages, this claim is governed by the law of negligence. That is, motorists must exercise “reasonable care under the circumstances.” When they fail to do so, it may be considered negligence.

Three individuals are now dead while one is in the hospital as the result of a recent car accident. The accident occurred in Centreville, Queen Anne’s County, on a recent Saturday afternoon. Police say the crash took place on Route 213’s northbound shoulder.

A 20-year-old Centreville man was driving southbound on the road with a 21-year-old Still Pond female as his passenger when he tried to pass another vehicle in a no passing zone, according to the investigation. A vehicle being driven by a 25-year-old Odenton man with a 25-year-old Elkridge woman as his passenger was headed northbound and, when he saw the first vehicle enter his lane, attempted to pull into the northbound shoulder, but was struck by the vehicle. Both vehicles’ passengers died at the scene, while the driver of the first vehicle died after being transported to a local hospital. The driver of the second vehicle was injured in the accident, police say.

Maryland Police say it’s currently unclear whether alcohol was a factor in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing. Regardless of whether or not the driver was impaired, wrongful death or personal injury claims may be filed in connection with this tragic car accident by both the surviving driver, as well as the decedents’ family or loved ones. If the driver of the first vehicle was negligent, then damages may be awarded to the victim and the victims’ families from the negligent driver‘s estate. An experienced personal injury attorney is typically consulted to assess the viability of such a claim.
