Pedestrian seriously injured in car accident
When a car crash occurs in Maryland, the resulting damage may range from a minor fender bender to multi-vehicle pileups with serious injuries, or worse. However, when the car accident involves a pedestrian, the injuries suffered are often catastrophic. If a pedestrian is injured and decides to file a legal claim, these claims are governed by the law of negligence. This means that motorists must exercise reasonable care under the circumstances, and a failure to do so typically constitutes negligence.
A recent car accident occurred in Prince George’s County. It happened around 5:41 p.m. in Rockville on a Monday night in December, according to the police. It resulted in a woman suffering serious injuries.
Police say that a 63-year-old Fort Washington woman was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk when she was struck down by a vehicle being driven by a 57-year-old Rockville driver. The victim was rushed to an area hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries. Police said that the driver was not injured in the collision.
Similar Maryland car accidents in the past have led to formal litigation when recovering victims have chosen to file personal injury claims in civil court. If the court rules that the driver’s negligence caused or contributed to the injuries the victim suffered, then damages may be awarded. When a car accident like this occurs, it is typical to consult an experienced Maryland personal injury attorney for both advice and assistance in seeking financial relief from any and all parties deemed responsible.
