NASCAR fan living with traumatic brain injury

Law Offices of Joel L. Katz, LLC Team

Automotive sporting events like NASCAR provide entertainment for countless numbers of Americans, including many Maryland residents. Known for its breakneck speeds with drivers in close proximity to one another, it is not unusual for the race series to see its fair share of accidents. One particular accident led to a man suffering a traumatic brain injury that, two years later, still affects him.

The initial incident occurred in 2013 at a race at Daytona Speedway. At the end of the race, a severe collision occurred that sent debris flying into the stands. Although the fence surrounding the track was designed to keep spectators safe from debris, it failed to do so. Among the debris were flying car parts, some of which struck the man.

When he was taken to a local medical center, doctors determined that he suffered a traumatic brain injury. As a result, his life has been upended. He has spent a large amount of time since then recovering from his injuries, and, to this day, finds that his employment opportunities are severely limited.

When an individual in Maryland is involved in an accident that causes him or her to believe that he or she suffered a brain injury, it is imperative to seek immediate medical attention. If it is proved that another individual or company’s negligence was a significant factor in the accident that caused the brain injury, the victim might be able to file a personal injury claim to help lessen some of the financial damages that are often incurred as a result of the accident, including medical bills and lost pay. The first step in this process is often consulting an experienced personal injury attorney.
