Maryland wrong-way head-on collision claims 2 lives

Law Offices of Joel L. Katz, LLC Team

Some roadways that cross the United States are simple and straight. Others seem to mingle and dance with routes, highways and interchanges with confusing and difficult to navigate turns and exchanges. A highly publicized wrong-way crash resulted in a head\-on collision that took two Maryland motorists lives. It has recently led state highway officials to investigate and rethink the networking of highly used roadways.

Frantic phone calls and reports began to flood dispatch around 2:10 a.m. Callers were reporting a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed heading in the wrong direction on a busy local highway. The first phone call came from an off-duty police officer who reported the vehicle heading eastbound in the westbound lane. Another call came from a concerned woman who reported the same occurrence, but a few minutes later called back to report the worst. The speeding car had struck another vehicle around 2:14 a.m.

The total amount of time the car spent going the wrong way down the highway was about 4 minutes before it struck another vehicle. Later, police would release the name of the 31-year-old woman and also note that alcohol was found inside her car. Toxicology reports have yet to be released and police are continuing to investigate.

Car accidents are often scary and a head-on collision can often be fatal. Maryland residents who have been injured or lost a loved one due to the negligence of another party have the option to file a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit in a civil court. Monies received from a successfully navigated claim can help cover the medical bills incurred, wages lost because of the inability to work due to injuries suffered in the accident and/or final costs. A skilled personal injury attorney can help families to understand their rights under Maryland law.
