Maryland woman killed in head-on auto accident
A 66-year-old woman’s life was recently taken in a fatal head-on car crash in Linthicum. The accident occurred in Anne Arundel County on a recent Friday in April. The other driver is currently in police custody and charges against him are pending. When a Maryland resident is killed in an auto accident by a negligent driver, the victim’s loved ones are typically entitled to file a wrongful death claim against the responsible party.
The police say the other driver was fleeing from a traffic stop when his vehicle crashed head-on with the woman’s vehicle. First responders pronounced her dead at the scene. The man, a 31-year-old Baltimore man, is still in police custody as he receives medical treatment at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
The man’s charges are pending a consultation with the state’s attorney of Anne Arundel County. Police said they were on patrol that afternoon around 3:45 p.m. They spotted a sedan doing 72 mph in a 55 mph zone and initiated a traffic stop. However, the man fled, accelerating up to speeds of 90 mph as he sought to evade the police. Cops called off the pursuit and a short time later, the man traveled into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into the woman’s vehicle, police said.
Investigators say they currently do not have a clear understanding of why the man was speeding or fleeing the attempted traffic stop. However, it appears possible that criminal charges will be filed against him and, if prosecutors secure a conviction on one of the criminal charges related to this fatal auto accident, this might be offered as evidence of negligence in a wrongful death suit, should one be filed by the victim’s loved ones. Successfully navigated, this may result in the entry of a monetary judgment for documented damages. Those who lose a loved ones to similar accidents are best served by consulting an experienced personal injury attorney as soon after the accident as possible.
