Maryland woman dead after fatal auto accident

Law Offices of Joel L. Katz, LLC Team

An auto accident that occurred recently ended with the death of one individual. The two-vehicle accident involved a car and a tractor-trailer, Maryland State Police reported. When an auto accident occurs due to the negligence of one individual and results in the death of another, the deceased victim’s loved ones are typically entitled to file a wrongful death suit.

The accident occurred in Carroll County on a recent Friday morning in February. It was reported around 4 a.m. as having occurred on Maryland 27. The crash investigation and the severity of the accident, which caused a massive amount of debris, resulted in the closing of the road until around 1:30 p.m.

According to the preliminary investigation, the tractor-trailer collided with a vehicle at an intersection and, shortly thereafter, both vehicles became engulfed in flames, police reported. Due to the severe nature of the injuries suffered by the sole passenger of the second vehicle, investigators were not able to confirm the individual’s identity without an autopsy. However, due to evidence obtained from the crash scene, combined with information that was contributed by the victim’s family members, the individual was positively identified as a 53-year-old Westminster woman.

A wrongful death claim can do little to assuage a family’s grief when an individual is fatally wounded in an auto accident. It can, however, provide some relief from some of the associated financial burdens that typically follow a death such as this one. When a case is successfully navigated, the compensation derived from the suit may be used to cover the cost of medical bills and emergency care, as well as funeral costs. A Maryland family who is grieving the loss of a loved one typically chooses to consult an experienced personal injury attorney who can advocate for its needs, as well as assist with the process of submitting a claim.
