Maryland police search for woman suspected of hit and run

Law Offices of Joel L. Katz, LLC Team

Maryland roads are full of traffic coming and going on a daily basis. Sharing those roadways with motorists are cyclists and pedestrians who often become victims of accidents through no fault of their own. A recent incident occurred that has resulted in police searching for a woman they believe to be responsible for a hit and run collision.

The accident took place at approximately 7:30 a.m. on a morning in early October. A teenage boy was reportedly riding his bicycle across the road within the lines of a marked crosswalk. A white mini van allegedly made a left-hand turn and struck him.

It seems that the driver of the minivan decreased speed in the moments following the collision. However, instead of remaining on site, the driver fled the scene. The bicyclist was injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The boy was able to offer a description of the van’s driver, saying that it was a black female who was wearing eyeglasses. He also said that the woman appeared to be 50 years of age or more. Police have not yet located the woman but have asked for anyone who might have witnessed the hit and run to contact them in order to assist in the investigation. In similar Maryland accidents, an injured victim would be able to file a personal injury claim against a motorist deemed negligible — that is, once authorities have located the driver after a hit and run. Because the details of an accident are easiest to recall in its early aftermath, it is typically advisable to contact a lawyer as soon as possible after the incident if one is considering filing a legal claim in court.
