Maryland car accidents: Wrong way collision leads to fatality

Law Offices of Joel L. Katz, LLC Team

The majority of drivers assume that they need to watch out for drivers behind them, beside them and possibly in front of them. However, most do not consider the possibility of a driver coming towards them in the same lane of traffic. When this does occur, car accidents are the likely result. Such an accident recently occurred on I-70 in Maryland.

According to police, the driver of a newer model vehicle was heading east. This would have not been a problem, except that he was in the lane of traffic that was heading west. As a result, he collided with a Nissan Rogue. Early indicators suggest that alcohol may have been involved in this accident.

This head-on collision has resulted in tragedy. The backseat passenger in the Nissan died as an immediate result. Additionally, the drivers of both of the vehicles sustained serious injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. Their current medical condition is unknown.

While the investigation into this accident continues, one can assume that the driver heading the wrong direction in traffic could face charges often stemming from such car accidents. If alcohol is additionally proven to have been involved, drinking and driving charges could also be included. In addition to the traffic related charges the driver will most likely face, it is possible that the victims’ families will decide to pursue civil claims within the Maryland court system. Such action could assist with medical expenses, funeral expenses and other losses resulting from another driver’s negligence.
