Hit-and-run accident victim’s family chooses to speak out

A vehicular collision can have a major impact on the financial, emotional and physical well-being of a victim and his or her family. In addition to injuries, car accidents can leave a victim with medical bills, lost wages from missed work, and other types of emotional and mental trauma. The aftermath of a serious car or hit-and-run accident is overwhelming, but a Maryland victim or the victim’s family does not have to face it alone.

A 23-year-old woman recently died in Prince George’s County after being struck by a vehicle. The fatal accident occurred on a recent Saturday in October. The woman had just been involved in a minor fender bender early that morning and, when she stopped to get out and assess the damage, was struck by a passing truck.

Local police responded to the fatal accident a little after 3 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered the woman in the roadway, unresponsive, and she was soon pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Two victims had stopped at the intersection to assess damages their respective vehicles had suffered due to being involved in a minor fender bender, when a truck that was traveling in the same lane of traffic struck one of them and then proceeded to drive off. According to police, the suspect had gotten out to see if everyone was okay, only to hop back in his vehicle to flee when police arrived. The driver turned himself in later that day and police say charges are pending.

After a fatal hit-and-run accident, it is typical for a Maryland family to have pressing questions about what might happen next. When an experienced Maryland personal injury attorney is consulted, he or she can answer most of these questions while helping the family to understand all of the options available to them. If legal representation is retained, the attorney will then be able to examine every aspect of the accident so that the strongest possible case can be built, while also helping the victim’s family navigate the often challenging time after the loss of their family member.
