Fatal car accident investigation continues
When an individual in Maryland gets behind the wheel of his or her vehicle, rarely do they consider the chance that they might be involved in a car accident. Yet, being involved in a car accident is nearly a fact of life in that it can happen to anyone. One such recent accident resulted in the death of one individual.
According to the authorities, the accident occurred in Prince Frederick around 3:39 p.m. on a recent Saturday in September. The two-vehicle crash involved an SUV driven by a 59-year-old man as well as a truck operated by a 57-year-old man. According to the preliminary investigation, the truck driver crossed into oncoming traffic and drove on the road shoulder. The driver of the SUV attempted to swerve out of the way, but his vehicle was struck head-on.
Both vehicles sustained serious damage. The driver of the SUV, his wife, as well as the other driver were all extricated from their respective vehicles. The SUV driver of the SUV was rushed to a local medical center, where he was pronounced dead. His wife was rushed to a trauma center, where she is currently listed in serious condition. According to authorities, both alcohol as well as driver error were factors that contributed to the crash.
A blood draw was taken to assess blood alcohol content as part of the ongoing investigation. Regardless of whether the truck’s driver was impaired, wrongful death as well as personal injury claims may be filed in connection with this fatal and tragic car accident. If a Maryland court rules that the driver of the truck was negligent in causing or contributing to the injuries suffered by the occupants in the SUV, then damages may be awarded to them, including the estates of the deceased victims. Victims of car accidents typically consult an experienced personal injury attorney to assess the validity of their claim and for ongoing support as they seek justice in the civil court system.
