Fatal car accident after police chase kills 2

Law Offices of Joel L. Katz, LLC Team

Two individuals were killed in a car accident that took place after a recent police chase. The accident occurred on a recent Friday in December in Baltimore County on Interstate 95. When an individual’s negligence results in a car accident that causes the death of another, the deceased’s loved ones are typically entitled to file a wrongful death claim.

The actions that lead to the fatal accident began when a police officer from the Maryland Transportation Authority attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop, police say. The vehicle failed to yield, and the police officer initiated a chase onto the highway around 1:40 p.m. The pursuit began in Baltimore, and the vehicle continued to flee in the northbound lane of I-95, eventually crossing the road’s median, after which it struck a southbound car.

The head-on collision resulted in the death of a 35-year-old Baltimore man as well as a 52-year-old Washington woman. The man was a front-seat passenger in the fleeing vehicle, while the female victim was a front-seat passenger in the second vehicle, police say. Four other individuals involved were also injured, but police did not provide an update regarding their condition. The driver of the fleeing vehicle, a 37-year-old man, is facing charges of fleeing, as well as eluding police.

Although a wrongful death claim does little to erase a family’s grief, a successfully presented claim could, nonetheless, provide some much-needed relief from some of the financial burdens typically incurred as a result of being involved in a fatal car accident. With the entry of a monetary judgement, any compensation that is derived from a properly litigated claim may cover both end-of-life expenses, as well as other documented financial losses. A Maryland family who is grieving the loss of a loved one typically chooses to consult an experienced personal injury attorney, as the attorney can be an advocate for their needs in addition to assisting them with the overall process of submitting their claim.
