Elderly pedestrian hit and killed in car accident

When a car accident in Maryland occurs, the individuals involved often say that, although it happened in an instant, time seemed to slow down for a few moments. Luckily, if the car accident wasn’t too serious, after one another’s information has been exchanged, both parties head their separate ways, shaken. However, when a car accident involves a pedestrian, the outcome is rarely as benign.

Such was the case in a car accident that took the life of an elderly pedestrian. Reportedly, the accident occurred in Bethesda on a recent night in October around 7 p.m.. According to the preliminary investigation, the woman, a 95-year-old Bethesda resident, was crossing a local roadway.

Although she was walking in the marked crosswalk’s area, an eastbound sedan struck her. According to police, she died at the accident scene. The detectives are investigating the fatal accident. They are trying to confirm what the pedestrian crossing signal and the traffic signal were displaying at the time tragedy occurred.

When an individual in Maryland is the victim of a fatal car accident due to another party’s negligence, the victim’s surviving family members are typically entitled to file a wrongful death claim in civil court. If this is successfully navigated, the claim may result in a monetary judgment awarded for damages incurred. These funds can be used to cover medical costs, funeral and burial arrangements as well as other documented financial losses. These individuals typically consult an experienced personal injury attorney to assess their situation and to assist them in litigating this type of claim.
