Deadly car accident claims the lives of a mother and son
Too many families are notified by police that a loved one was killed in a crash. One loss is difficult enough, but when more than one family member is unexpectedly killed in a car accident, it can be even more devastating. Sadly, one Maryland family was notified that two of its members, a mother and son, died in a crash that occurred in the early morning hours of a recent Sunday.
The accident occurred at around 1:15 a.m. The 27-year-old man was driving, and his 57-year-old mother was the passenger. As the son began making a left turn, another vehicle came out of nowhere and crashed into the unsuspecting family. Tragically, both mother and son suffered fatal injuries in the impact to which they succumbed at the scene.
The other driver suffered injuries for which he was treated and released from a local hospital. Police report that the man was speeding and ran a red light just prior to the crash. Charges are expected to be filed against him once the investigation is complete. It took approximately six hours to conduct the investigation and clear Pennsylvania Avenue in District Heights, which is where the crash happened.
While officials plan to file criminal charges, the immediate family members of the two victims do not have to wait for that to happen in order to exercise their right to file wrongful death claims against the driver believed to be at fault in this deadly car accident. Successfully establishing that negligence led to the death of their loved ones could result in a Maryland court awarding damages to the family. Monetary restitution will not bring back their family members, but it could help with the financial burdens placed upon them in the aftermath of this accident.
