Community activist killed in auto accident

Law Offices of Joel L. Katz, LLC Team

A three-car accident that claimed the life of a community activist in Prince George’s County took place recently. The auto accident occurred early on a recent Monday in January, authorities say. When Maryland individuals are killed in car accidents that were the result of other drivers’ negligence, the victims’ loved ones are typically entitled to file a wrongful death suit against the responsible party or parties.

The 45-year-old man was driving westbound in Capitol Heights around 2:50 a.m. at the time of the fatal accident. An SUV that was in the eastbound lane of the road suddenly crossed into the man’s lane. The two vehicles collided, head-on, and the first vehicle then sideswiped a third car, county police say.

The man was, unfortunately, pronounced dead at the accident’s scene. Police say the SUV’s driver suffered injuries, but they were not estimated to be life-threatening. The driver of the third car suffered similar injuries. Currently, investigators are trying to establish whether or not either speed or alcohol were causes or contributing factors in this crash.

It has yet to be seen, but it is possible that the driver of the SUV will be facing charges in relation to this fatal auto accident. If this occurs and the driver is convicted, the conviction may help advance any related wrongful death or personal injury claims in civil court. When fatal car accidents like this one occur in Maryland, victims — including the surviving families of deceased victims — typically choose to consult an experienced personal injury attorney to determine which legal steps may be appropriate with regard to any potential claims for documented monetary damages.
