Car accident involving a Maryland Transit Authority bus
When driving Maryland roads, either for pleasure or for work, the roads can be a dangerous place. Road construction and other drivers all play a part in making the operation of a motor vehicle a task that requires complete concentration. A car accident can occur at any time and at any place and can be a minor fender bender or a tragedy that seriously injures or fatally wounds drivers or their passengers. Recently, a passenger in a car was seriously injured when the vehicle in which he was riding struck the side of a bus.
Officers were called to the scene of the motor vehicle accident around 4:16 p.m. on Thursday March 9, 2017. Investigators say that a bus was traveling northbound and was making a left hand turn. During the execution of the turn, the bus was struck by a car traveling southbound. The force of the collision pushed the bus onto the center median.
The driver of the car, a 22-year-old male was pronounced dead on the scene. The 24-year-old passenger was transported to a local trauma center with serious injuries. The driver of the bus was the only one on board at the time of the accident and he was not injured. Police believe the speed of the car to be a major factor.
Anyone injured in a Maryland car accident as a result of a negligent act has the right to file a personal injury claim in a civil court. If the driver deemed responsible was fatally injured, a lawsuit can be filed against his or her estate. Compensation gained from a successful lawsuit can help cover a victim’s medical expenses and other costs incurred due to the accident or can help with end-of-life expenses in case of a fatality. A personal injury attorney can help devastated families understand their rights under Maryland law.
