Car accident involves MTA bus, students and adults injured

Law Offices of Joel L. Katz, LLC Team

When a car accident occurs, individuals are often faced with dealing with injuries suffered in the crash as well as damages to their vehicle. If the accident was caused by the negligence of another driver, submitting a personal injury claim in a civil court is typically added to the list. A recent car accident that involved a Maryland Transit Administration bus might have some of its victims doing exactly that.

The accident occurred in Baltimore around 8 a.m. on a recent Friday in September. The MTA’s preliminary investigation showed that the driver of the car allegedly ran a stop sign as the bus was proceeding through the intersection. The car then collided with the bus.

As a result, the driver of the car, the bus driver and 16 students, ages 11 to 17, who were riding the bus, suffered injuries. The injured parties were taken to two separate local medical centers for treatment. The accident is currently still being investigated by the MTA police.

Based upon the preliminary evidence, it appears that the injured bus driver as well as the injured students might have grounds to file personal injury lawsuits separately for financial relief against the driver of the car. A successfully presented claim may result in the entry of a monetary judgment, and any restitution paid might be used to help alleviate many of the financial burdens that are often imposed on victims of car accidents, such as medical bills as well as lost pay. A victim of a car accident in Maryland usually consults an experienced personal injury attorney in order to assess the validity of a legal claim and provide ongoing support in navigating the civil justice system.
