Alleged negligent driver causes 5-vehicle crash with injuries

A recent multi-vehicle accident on Route 22 in Maryland may underscore the importance of obeying the rules of the road. The Aberdeen Police Department reported that one alleged negligent driver caused a crash that involved four other vehicles. Miraculously, only two people suffered injuries in the accident.

According to the accident report, a 31-year-old driver of a pickup truck ran a red traffic light as he turned left onto Route 22. Another pickup that was eastbound on Route 22 could not avoid a collision and smashed into the alleged negligent driver’s truck. The 39-year-old driver of the second pickup and his passenger both suffered injuries, and they were rushed to the hospital. It was reported that their injuries were not life-threatening.

After the initial collision, the driver of the second truck lost control and struck a westbound SUV with enough force to push it into yet another pickup truck. No other injuries were reported. Route 22 remained closed while police investigations were conducted, and the driver who was deemed at fault was cited for negligent driving and failure to obey a traffic signal.

Accidents such as this one sometimes leave victims believing they are not injured, but medical evaluations may indicate otherwise. It is not uncommon for neck and back injuries to present later, and such injuries could lead to ongoing medical costs. Any person who is injured in an accident that is suspected to have been caused by a negligent driver may pursue financial relief for medical expenses. They retain the right to file personal injury claims in a Maryland civil court, and they may also seek recovery of other documented financial losses.
