2 fatalities in separate motorcycle accidents in Maryland

The end of a long winter means that more people will be on the roadways, taking advantage of the warm weather. Drivers of traditional motor vehicles must display even more vigilance as pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists take to the streets. Failure to do so can have devastating consequences. For example, two separate motorcycle accidents have resulted in two fatalities in Maryland.

The first accident happened on a Friday night in May. Police say that the driver of a sports utility vehicle failed to yield to the motorcyclist. The second accident, which happened two days later, happened in a similar manner.

Police indicate that a 24-year-old motorcyclist struck an SUV that was attempting to make a turn. The driver of the SUV is also suspected of failing to yield the right of way. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The families of the two deceased motorcyclists are likely devastated over the news of their loved one’s death. In these circumstances, it is hard not to wonder what a difference it could have made if the two drivers who allegedly caused the fatal motorcycle accidents had waited a few more seconds. Unfortunately, the two families are likely dealing with their grief while also encountering the financial ramifications of a fatal accident. Those in similar situations have sought financial relief in a Maryland civil court. In many cases where it could be proven that another’s negligence caused a fatality, the court has ordered a monetary award be paid to cover damages stemming from an accident as allowed under state law.
