2 dead following car accident in Maryland

Two men are dead following a single-vehicle accident in Maryland, according to local sources. The Baltimore Police Department responded to a call in the morning of Dec. 29. Officers are now investigating the car accident, trying to determine a cause for the crash. Given the driver died in the accident, no criminal charges will be forthcoming.

According to the accident report, it appears that sometime in the early morning of Dec. 29, a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old man and carrying a 30-year-old man was traveling on W. Northern Parkway when the accident occurred. For reasons that have yet to be determined, the vehicle crossed over Liberty Heights Avenue before leaving the road and striking a tree. Officers received a call as early as 7:45 a.m. but were unable to locate the crashed vehicle for another hour.

Both individuals in the vehicle were rushed to local hospitals for treatment, but both were later pronounced dead. Police are unsure of the cause of this accident, as they are still trying to determine at what time the crash actually occurred. They have asked for the support of the community in coming to conclusions about how and why the accident happened.

Many factors can contribute to a fatal car accident, and Maryland police will continue their investigation until they can determine the cause. They have not ruled out intoxication, recklessness or negligence at this time. If it becomes clear through the course of the investigation that the driver was negligent in a manner that materially contributed the crash, the family of the deceased passenger may choose to seek legal recourse. It is possible under state law to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the estate of the deceased driver in civil court, which could lead to the court awarding damages to the grieving family.
