Multiple vehicle car accident in Maryland involves minors

It may be tempting to ignore the posted speed limit signs when driving a familiar or often-traveled road. The posted speed limits may seem to some like merely a suggestion, but the speed limit has been tested and proven to allow safe passage on and along the roadway when followed. Ignoring these signs can have serious or even fatal repercussions, as a woman from Maryland learned in a recent car accident.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. Authorities responded to a call of a multiple vehicle collision involving 3 vehicles and 12 people. The first vehicle, a sedan, was traveling eastbound when the 32-year-old female driver was apparently unable to control the speed. The sedan hit a van which then struck a small car.

The allegedly speeding vehicle contained a 25-year-old female passenger and 4 minor passengers ranging in age from 11-years-old to 11-months-old. The van held 3 adult passengers and 2 minor passengers. The driver of the small car was an 18-year-old male.

Most victims were treated at the scene of the accident. Two passengers in the sedan were transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Four passengers in the sedan were transported for medical treatment by helicopter. All are said to be in stable condition. Authorities are still investigating and believe the driver of the sedan may have been impaired at the time of the accident.

A car accident such as this can have long-term unexpected consequences. The minor children involved in the car accident could suffer emotional trauma that may last longer than the physical injuries. The adults may miss work and need medical intervention as a result of the accident. The victims may seek damages in the form of a civil claim in a Maryland court.
