Maryland motorcycle death: negligent driver could be at fault

Though the severity of motor vehicle accidents varies widely, many result in injury or, at their worst, death. When two cars collide, the results can be devastating. When a car veers into a motorcycle’s path, however, the resulting injuries can be catastrophic. In many cases of motorcycle accidents, a negligent driver may be to blame.

Earlier this month, a Maryland motorcycle driver was injured when a car collided with his vehicle. According to sources, the motorcycle was traveling south on Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda when it was struck by a sedan. The northbound car was attempting to make a left hand turn when it apparently struck the southbound motorcycle.

The motorcycle driver was rushed to an area medical center to be treated for injuries. Shortly after, the driver died from the injuries sustained in the collision. The accident is still under investigation.

Because motorcycles are much smaller than other vehicles, motorcycle drivers are more vulnerable and, therefore, more susceptible to injury when accidents occur. It is all too common for a negligent driver to veer into the wrong lane or turn in front of a motorcycle, causing a collision. In some cases, the injuries sustained by the motorcyclist are so severe that death results. In cases such as these, Maryland families are entitled to know their rights so that they may pursue legal action on behalf of their deceased family member. A successfully litigated suit will result in monetary compensation that can help the family offset funeral costs and manage the pain and suffering incurred from losing a loved one.
