Maryland drunk driving car accidents can lead civil litigation

Public campaigns over the last decade have attempted to educate the public about the dangers of drinking and driving. Thanks to these efforts, it is likely that everyone knows of the dangers of getting behind the steering wheel after consuming alcohol. Unfortunately, some people continue to engage in this risky behavior, putting their lives and the lives of others on the roadways at risk by causing preventable car accidents. One accident in Maryland further demonstrates these risks as it left one person injured and killed two others.

The accident happened around 3:30 a.m. on a Maryland road. Officials claim that the driver of an automobile lost control. As a result, the car crashed into several trees.

The driver was transported to an area hospital for treatment. His current condition is unclear. Two passengers died at the scene. While no charges have been filed yet, the accident remains under investigation. Police suspect that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the fatal accident.

The loss of a loved one under any circumstance is devastating; however, when that loss comes as a result of an unexpected, likely preventable, accident, the shock is even greater. The surviving families of the two deceased victims will have to face their grief along with the realization of the financial ramifications of such a loss. In addition to funeral expenses, the families may have to cope with the loss of income and other financial losses. Past victims of car accidents have sought financial relief for expenses stemming from an accident caused by another’s negligence in a Maryland civil court. In some cases, those who were able to successfully argue their case were awarded a monetary judgment to cover the expenses created by the accident.
