High speed car accidents in Maryland can cause serious injury

There are likely millions of people across the country who choose to ignore posted speed limits each day. While some people may feel they are an impediment, speed limits are actually in place to preserve the safety of all people in or near the roadway. Unfortunately, speeding can often lead to serious or even fatal car accidents. Two men, one from Maryland, are currently in critical condition after an apparent high-speed accident in Anne Arundel County.

Police claim that a 24-year-old man was driving on a Maryland road in the early morning hours of a day in late April. Reports indicate that the car was traveling at over 70 mph when the driver missed a curve. The car apparently struck a curb, damaging a tire, before striking two different trees. The force of the impact caused the engine to separate from the car.

Both the driver and passenger were extricated from the vehicle by the fire department. They were transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where they were listed in critical condition. The accident is currently under investigation. However, police believe that alcohol and speed may have contributed to the accident.

Such car accidents can have unexpected long-term consequences. For example, due to the seriousness of the injuries suffered, a long hospitalization and recovery period may be necessary. As a result, the victims may miss work, which could result in lost wages. In addition to medical expenses, there could be significant financial implications. However, if the passenger can prove to a Maryland civil court that the accident was caused by the driver’s negligence, he could be awarded a monetary judgment as a result of the injuries he suffered in the accident.
