1 injured in Maryland hit-and-run car accident
A Maryland woman was recently involved in a car accident that sent her to the hospital. The other driver, a Maryland man, was allegedly driving under the influence when the car accident occurred. He is now facing DUI as well as other charges in relation to the accident, which police say was a hit and run.
The accident occurred around 9 p.m. in Wicomico County, according to the authorities. The Maryland State Police reported that a minivan was struck by a pickup truck, whose driver then fled the scene of the accident. Both state and local authorities were on the lookout for the suspect.
The driver of the minivan and a female passenger in her vehicle were both taken to a regional medical center to be treated for their injuries suffered in the crash. The driver of the pickup truck was spotted by hotel staff, who reported an intoxicated man exiting a pickup truck. This was relayed by the local police to the state police, and the driver was later apprehended and then transported to a medical center as a result of the perceived high level of his intoxication. Police say they discovered a number of empty beer cans in his vehicle, in addition to prescription medicine.
The driver received traffic citations in connection with this car accident to go along with the DUI charge. Police said that additional charges are pending. The victims will be fully within their legal rights to pursue personal injury claims in a Maryland civil court in relation to this vehicular accident. If the court rules that the driver’s negligence caused or contributed to the injuries suffered, then damages may be awarded to each woman. Victims of similar car accidents typically choose to consult experienced personal injury attorneys for advice and assistance in seeking financial relief from parties deemed responsible.
